The General Chiropractic Council (GCC) is the government regulator for the chiropractic profession. All chiropractors are required by law to be registered with the GCC. Stuart Smellie has been registered since the opening of the register in 1998 and has the registration number 00034.

The Royal College of Chiropractors (RCC) is an organisation, set up by Royal Charter, to maintain and improve the quality of chiropractic care for the benefits of patients. Stuart Smellie is a Fellow of the College (FRCC), as well as a trustee and the Director of Academic Affairs.

The British Chiropractic Association (BCA) is the longest-standing professional membership association for chiropractors in the UK and its mission is to be the home for chiropractors who put patients first. Stuart Smellie is a member.

AECC University College is the institution (then known as the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic) where Stuart Smellie trained to be a chiropractor and graduated with a degree in chiropractic in 1991. It is the oldest and most respected undergraduate programme in Europe.
